Monteverde's One Touch Tool Pen is a spirit level, a ruler, a screwdriver, a capacitive stylus and now, a fountain pen. After all, who doesn't wish that their ruler/spirit level could transform into a fountain pen?

With the capacitive stylus you can doodle on your iPad without it feeling like you're finger-painting.

The screwdriver attachment is stowed away safely under the stylus when not in use, and the stylus itself can be attached to either end of the pen so it doesn't get lost when you're busy driving screws. Why, you might ask, do I need a screwdriver in my pen? We can't say for sure - a Q-Branch gimmick perhaps!

A ruler is one of those things that's rarely around when you need it, and with the spirit level, at least you'll know that the desk is level if you can bring yourself to put the pen down.

A very cool tool pen

I’d be totally honest. I have had a mostly disappointing experience with Monteverde (and Conklin) fountain pens. Because of the frustrating inconsistency of the nibs and feeds. I stopped buying Monteverde and Conklin pens years ago.

But I always wanted the Monteverde Tool pen. It is somewhat geeky and gimmicky, with all the various tool features. To me, that’s also the pen’s biggest appeal. Imagine a fountain pen with all the neat, practical tools and measures should you ever need to use them. It is quite cool!
My first choice was the yellow pen. Since only the black one was for sale, I decided to go for it. I also would have definitely preferred the Medium nib. Again, only the Fine was available. I did not hesitate, and just bought the pen, anyway.
I’m liking it a lot. The pen is obviously very well made. Decent weight, no problems or discomfort with gripping while writing with it. The nib writes a very fine line, but is fairly smooth, with no scratchiness/skipping or flow issues. With Monteverde, that is quite a bonus. The cap is tiny and is very likely to be lost by careless users. So, I suggest sticking the cap onto the clip when writing with the pen. That way, you’ll never lose the cap.
I’m glad I bought the Tool pen. Good quality instrument. The price is alright, too. Recommended for pen fans who expect and enjoy some fun in this fascinating hobby of ours.
